The Space Access petition was created to be submitted to governments and private sector entities to show them that the desire for cheap access to space is one that many people would like and to help those organizations further their own efforts to reduce the cost of space flight (Currently around $10,000 a kg).

Mars cannot viably be settled, or for that matter the Moon, orbital cities or any other space projects cannot be economically viable until cheap space access becomes a reality.
